Queer Liberation Month at New Day Church

Every year in June, we commemorate Pride with Queer Liberation Month. At New Day, we affirm queer identity in faith practice. We invite you to join us in celebration of our queerness and yours.

A Litany for Queer Liberation

Blessed be God who creates and affirms lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, questioning and all other individuals of queer sexualities and those with gender expansive identities.

God and our ancestors send allies and angels who walk with us, fight with us, and struggle with us. We know that God and our ancestors desire for all people to be free. We gather as a faith-full people with a diversity of spiritual practices. We express our faith in Queer Love and publicly commit to Queer Liberation.

We center ALL queer people and stand with those on the margins: queer people in the Caribbean, queer people across the African diaspora, our queer siblings in Uganda, Zambia, and the African continent, Black trans women, and Black trans men.

We stand in solidarity with queer youth and children, queer individuals who are experiencing homelessness, queer and trans seniors, Black and Brown queer and trans people in the United States who are victims of homophobic and transphobic violence within and outside of their communities.

We repent for transphobia, homophobia and all the ways we’ve fallen short of honoring and loving ourselves. We repent for neglecting one other, for choosing anti-blackness, racism, misogyny and capitalism when it has been convenient.

We grieve our failure to honor the dignity of queer people’s God given right to exist and thrive within the church.

We commit to building a world where all people are free.

Amen.
